What Does ‘Discovery’ Mean? Well, Discovery means mostly to read, learn, and write. But to other people it might mean to discover things; that is why it is named the Discovery Center. In my picture I am reading a book. By reading a book I can look words up and look projects up. Discovery also means to have fun!

Crusie Arcade Game - Flick the Ball:
Research Paper
Identify the Problem How can we, as Caine has inspired, demonstrate through teamwork our imagination, determination, and passion for creativity and innovation, with our own arcade constructions? Explore
What Makes an Effective Professional Arcade Game? The game that I played and researched is called Sphere Runner. To play Sphere Runner you use the arrow keys to move up, down, left, right. The arrow keys are moving the rocket. The rocket is moving across the grid trying to fill in circles. If you look at the bottom of the game window you can locate the instructions. The creator’s name is David Carachelo. The level of difficulty is a 3 star rating out of a 4 star rating.
The materials I would need are a small cupcake tin, a couple of marbles, a light blue marker and a silver marker. To build the game it would cost about $200.00, and to buy it would probably cost about $100.00.
Design Brief What is the Concept Design of My Crusie Arcade Game? The name of our game is FLICK THE BALL. To play the game you try to flick the paper ball into the mouth on the box. If you miss the mouth there are three other holes that you could try to get it into and one is for 1 point, another is for 2 points, and the last hole is for three points. If you make it in the mouth all 3 tries you get 20 tickets, if you get it in 2 times you get 15 tickets and if you get 1 it time in you get 5 tickets. All the points are worth the number of tickets. The rules will be displayed on the side of the box. For our game we give it a 4 star rating out of a 1-4 star rating. You win the game if you flick the ball into the mouth on the box. When you get a certain amount of tickets you can get a small prize a medium prize and a large prize.
The blueprint of our game has a view from the side, top and front. Our blueprint shows a big box with a hat on the back of the box and the mouth would be connected to the hat, and there would be a ramp that you would flick the ball off. There would also be a ticket dispenser to get the tickets that you won.
To make this game by hand we would need a big box, markers, a hat, Sharpie, box cutter, paper, bottles, tickets, tape, bags, jars, and prizes. We think it would take about a week or less to build the game. A problem we would have is taping supplies to the game.

Praise: Very fun arcade game! Kids really enjoyed it! Love the ticket machine and prizes!
Question: Why do you put the coins in?
Polish: What do you do if someone flicks the ball over the Game?
Student comment: Thank you very much for playing Flick the Ball! We are glad that you had fun and that you think other people had fun. We actually had some help with the ticket machine from Mr. May! We put the coins in the jar because we wanted it to be like a real arcade game! I think Chloe and I would give the players another try, because if someone flicked the ball over the game it would not be fair if they did not get another try.

Praise: Very thorough in your explanation of how your game is played and player expectations. Love the built-in ticket dispenser! I was hooked from the minute I started playing.
Question: Did it take you 1 week to complete? How difficult was the construction?
Polish: No polish- great the way it is!
Student Comment: Thank you; I was very happy for you to come in and play Chloe’s and my game, Flick The Ball. It took about 1 month to completely build our game. The construction was a little difficult because we had trouble taping everything to the game. We are very happy that you did not have any polishes because that is how we know we are doing a good job.

Praise: Love the game! It is addictive! Fun, fun, really wanted to get it in the person’s mouth.
Question: How did you come up with the game idea?
Polish: Maybe you should use a foam ball.
Student Comment: I can see how it is addictive, because the players want to get it into the mouth just like you said. Chloe and I were writing game ideas and we came up with Flick the Ball! We would use a foam ball, but we also want a ball that we made ourselves. We could use a foam ball for backup if we lose the ball that we made!

Make It Better How Can We Make the Crusie Arcade Game Better? Reflection on Project
What can we do to improve our Arcade Creation?
We could have put boxes on the bottom instead of cans for stability.
Specifically, how would we do this?
We would take the cans off of the bottom of the game and put two boxes under the game.
Reflection on Process
What did you learn to do with the Crusie Arcade Project?
I learned that you need to be nice and fair.
What do you know now that you didn’t know before doing the Project?
I did not know that you can do so much with one piece of tape and you can use lots of recycled materials for your game.
What can you do now that you couldn’t before doing this project?
I could tape the giant box together and not let it break.
What did you like about the project that helped your learning?
I liked learning about recycled materials and to use them for my game.
What could have been done differently to help your learning?
We could of made a tiny sculpture of our game.
A Final Reflection: In order to improve our Arcade creation, Flick the Ball, we could have put boxes on the bottom of the box instead of cans. The reason we would take the cans off of the bottom of the game is because they were not stable. Instead of cans, we could have used two boxes to get the same results. I learned that you need to be nice and fair to the players who played Flick the Ball. What I did not know before but know now is that you can do so many things with a piece of tape, and you can use lots of recycled materials to use for your game. What I can do now is tape a giant box together and not let it break. I liked learning about recycling materials to use for my game. We could have made a tiny sculpture of our game before we built the big one so we would have known how it was going to work. Crusie Arcade Game Presentation - Gaming Week:
